teampool Awards Scholarships to Computer Science Students at Paris Lodron University Salzburg
- 6 minutes read - 1078 wordsOn Wednesday, 23rd of October 2024, teampool personal service gmbh recognized nine outstanding computer science students from Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) with scholarships and prizes totaling €75,000. Three students received new scholarships, three existing scholarships were extended, and three bachelor theses were awarded €1,000 each.
New Scholarships for Computer Science Talents
Students Anna Jambura, Felix Kipman, and Mateja Jakovic are delighted to receive new scholarships amounting to €1,000 per month. This award is granted to them for their exceptional academic achievements. Additionally, the existing scholarships of Sarah Götz, Andreas Auer, and Sam Crawford have been extended.
Awarding of Bachelor Theses
Furthermore, the bachelor theses of Nadir Fejzić, Peter Lindner, and Emanuel Mairoll were awarded €1,000 each for their outstanding performances. These works are distinguished by high technical expertise and innovative approaches.
Honoring in Seekirchen
The ceremonial award ceremony took place at teampool’s headquarters in Seekirchen, attended by the Rector of Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Bernhard Fügenschuh, Vice Rector Jutta Horejs-Höck, and teampool Managing Director Ewald Ottradovetz. “Promoting young computer science talents is a crucial contribution to addressing the skilled labor shortage in this field,” emphasized Ottradovetz. Nikolaus Augsten, Professor at the Computer Science Department of PLUS, was impressed by the high quality of the applications and the diverse backgrounds of the students.
About the Awarded Bachelor Theses
Nadir Fejzić, in his thesis “Exploring Reasoning Performance of RISC-V Software Models in BTOR2,” investigated how different model configurations affect the efficiency of SAT-based model checking. This work combines complex theoretical concepts and experimental results impressively: Imagine a workshop where cars are tested. Fejzić tested which model configurations of a program are best suited to find an error (i.e., run the fastest and most efficiently)—similar to trying out different car tires to determine which are best for a racetrack. Learn more in the interview [https://www.plus.ac.at/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/BA_Arbeit-Interview-mit-Nadir-Fejzic.pdf](“One Step Ahead: Nadir Fejzić and the Future of Software Development,”) about the role of the teampool prize for him and where he sees himself in five years.
Peter Lindner, in his thesis “Verifying Mutual Exclusion with TLA+,” examined concurrent algorithms using the Temporal Logic of Actions. Lindner contributed to a deeper understanding of the problem that parallel processes can cause conflicts. Mutual Exclusion can be visually imagined as follows: In a city with many cars and intersections, only one car should be in the middle of an intersection at a time to avoid accidents. However, Lindner’s work shows that some published algorithms do not adhere to this principle, leading to conflicts caused by parallel processes. In the interview “Verification of Algorithms: Peter Lindner Receives teampool Bachelor Prize,” learn whom he particularly wishes to thank for supervising his bachelor thesis.
Emanuel Mairoll developed “VitalVision,” a mobile platform for processing vital data such as EKG and PPG. This work can be compared to a fitness tracker: it allows vital data like heartbeats to be validated and displayed in real-time on a smartphone. With this, Mairoll makes a valuable contribution to the research of cardiovascular diseases. Discover what the biggest challenge was in creating the thesis and what motivates him to study computer science in the interview “Technological Innovation in Healthcare: An Innovative Pioneer in Vital Data Processing” with Emanuel Mairoll.
Selection of New Scholarship Recipients
The newly selected scholarship recipients have impressive backgrounds:
Felix Kipman, born in 2002, graduated with excellent success from BRG Hallein, studying Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Science. In addition to his studies at PLUS, he is also working as a chess coach and received the Early Student Award from the Austrian Mathematical Society in 2024. In the interview “Mathematics, AI, and Chess: Felix Kipman in Search of Solutions,” learn about the role chess plays in his life and what it means for him to receive the teampool scholarship.
Mateja Jakovic, born in 2006, graduated from Europa- und Bundesgymnasium Salzburg Nonntal, works alongside his computer science studies in the family business, and tutors in German and English. In 2024, he participated in the Certanem Latinum, a major translation competition for classical languages, and is also completing his master’s in monument, facade, and building cleaning. In the interview “Versatile Scholar: Mateja Jakovic Balances Studies and Family Business,” learn how the latter relates to computer science and who particularly motivates him.
Anna Jambura, born in 2005, graduated with excellent success from HTL-Braunau, bringing diverse experiences from internships in various companies, including trips to Japan. She dances group dance at championship level and plays the flute in her local community’s orchestra. In the interview “Dance, Music, and Computer Science: Anna Jambura Combines Creative Passions with Academic Success,” learn about the biggest challenges she faced in her thesis and what drives her to study computer science.
Continuation for Existing Scholarship Recipients
The scholarships of Sarah Götz, Andreas Auer, and Sam Crawford have also been extended due to their consistently outstanding academic performances. All three students emphasized the importance of their computer science studies at PLUS in succeeding in this field and the opportunities the teampool scholarship provides them—more information can be found in the interview with all three.
