Filip Kipman: Computer science student receives teampool scholarship
Filip Kipman, born in 2005, is one of the most outstanding young talents in the STEM field. After graduating with honors from BG/BRG Hallein, he impressed with numerous successes in chess, mathematics, and chemistry—including winning the PULS4 chemistry show “Chemical Intelligence” at the Gamechangers Festival in Vienna (2024) and two state championship titles at the Chemistry Olympiad.
As a long-standing member of the youth performance squad and multiple state chess champion in Salzburg, he demonstrated his commitment and ability at an exceptionally early age. In addition to his computer science studies, Kipman runs his own small business and programs websites for customers and his high school class, among other things.
Kipman has now been awarded the prestigious teampool scholarship.
“I’ve been interested in computer science since the 4th grade,” says Kipman. “My first HTML page was kind of like the beginning—I was thrilled that I could create a program with the right instructions.” His enthusiasm for logical thinking has been a consistent theme throughout his school career: “Finding the best possible solutions to a problem using certain rules – that applies to chess, but also to mathematics and chemistry.” These three subjects accompanied Kipman throughout his school years. In addition to his successes in national and state competitions, he competed amicably with his six siblings at home: “You’re constantly competing with each other – that made me stress-resistant and performance-oriented. My brother received the teampool scholarship last year, so I thought I’d give it a try too.”
The decision to study computer science at the University of Salzburg was not an easy one for him: “At 15, I was convinced I wanted to study computer science. But my success in the Chemistry Olympiad made me uncertain; I am still enthusiastic about both subjects today.” Ultimately, Kipman decided to study computer science because he sees more practical applications for it in his career and everyday life.
Kipman has clear ideas for the future: “I am convinced that the wave of artificial intelligence in particular requires good computer scientists.” The teampool scholarship makes Kipman’s studies more affordable and allows him to concentrate fully on his studies.
